Vagamon is an ideal tourist spot ambushed by the greenery of tea plantations, beautiful hills and deep valleys.. The enchanting hill station dotted with tea gardens will soon be one of India's foremost eco-tourism projects. The place is very easily accessible from Thekkady and Cochin. The famous Paragliding Festival ( http://www.paraglidingkerala.com ) is done at Vagamon.

HOW TO REACH VAGAMON

Vagamon is easily accessible from any corner of Kerala. Here i have included how to reach Vagamon from a few cities of Kerala

KOTTAYAM / ERANAKULAM TO VAGAMON

Vagamon is easily accessible from Kottayam / Ernakulam . From Eranakulam get a bus to Kottayam. There are lots of buses in this route and it will take about 2-3 Hours. From Kottayam there are a 2-3 buses to Kattapana via Vagamon (Most of the Buses to Kattapana moves via Kuttikkanam). Otherwise you can get a different bus to Erattupeta and from There there are buses to Vagamon. Please note that there are not many Buses along this 36 Km Road, but you will find a lot of Jeeps.

Alternative :From Kottayam you can get a bus to Kattapana / Kumily (There is one every 15 Minutes). Get down at Kuttikkanam (2 Hours) in case of Kumily Bus / Elepara  (2.5 Hours ) in case of Kattapana Bus. From Kuttikkanam, get another bus to The Place called Elepara (There are many buses from Kuttikkanam to This point). The distance between Kuttikkanam and Elepara is Just 8 Kms. Once you reach Elepara, You can walk to Vagamon (Along the Pictureseque road for 11 Kms) , or get another taxi / Bus. But the best way is walking.

THEKKADY

From Thekkady you can get buses moving to Kottayam and get down at a place called Kuttikkanam (1 Hour, 36 Kms) and Follow the Route mentioned Above. The Entire route is lined with picturesque Plantation and gentle hills.

PLACES TO VISIT IN VAGAMON

Vagamon is filled with natural beauty all around. The lovely landscapes , green grass hills with yellow and red flower spots twinkling in the tone of winds, pine forests, virgin natural beauty.. everything makes it a perfect holiday ride through .

Kurisumala : Kurisumala located in a distance of 5 km from Vagamon, is an important center for Christian pilgrims with a church on the top of the hill. There are fourteen crosses on the pathway that leads to the church and commands eye-catching views of the surrounding countryside. No wonder Vagamon is regarded as one of the most exquisite Kerala Hill Stations.

Kurisumala Ashram : Kurisumala Ashram is a monastery on the hill. It has a small community, which follows Christian faith but combines with it the Indian spiritual customs and Gandhian thoughts. In the year 1958 Abbot Francis Acharya, a Belgian and Fr Bede Griffiths established the Cistercian abbey.

Murugan Para :

Murugan Para is a rock-cut temple on the east of Kurisumala dedicated to Lord Murugan that exerts a pull on large number of worshipers.

Thankalpara :

Another peak very near to Murukan Mala.The Thankal para is a Muslim Pilgrim Spot

The Vagamon is Blessed with Holy hills from All religions, from Hindus, Christians and Muslims and so it is am very important pilgrim spot for everyone.

Mundakayam Ghat:

A Fantastic Place to Go, just 8 Km from Vagamon to have very sexy view of the sunset. You will have a birds eye view of the never ending stretches of Low lying ares of Kerala. The Paragliding festival is Conducted here.

The yearly Paragliding festival of Kerala organized by ASSTA  takes place here. You have to move about 2 Km from the Road to reach this spot and is one of the most beautiful spots. EXCELLENT

Barren Hills:

This is at a place called Kolahalamedu where you have hills carpeted with green grass and grass only for  miles.

Pine Forests :

The pine tree orchard in Kolahalamedu is a protected area. There are boards cautioning tourists to keep from cluttering the forest.

BARREN HILLS OF KOLAHALAMEDU

The Barren hills of Kolahalamedu are one of the most beautiful attractions of Vagamon. There are  neverending  streches of short hills covered with velvet of green Grass....Like teh Windows XP Default Wallpaper. The anual Kerala paragliding Festival Takes place here.
